Travis Hunter Selected 2nd Overall By Jacksonville In NFL Draft

Travis Hunter, the 2024 Heisman Trophy winner, was taken by the Jacksonville Jaguars with the second overall pick of the 2025 NFL Draft on Thursday (April 24) at Green Bay’s Lambeau Field. He is the eighth consecutive Heisman recipient drafted in the first round.
Hunter is the first Heisman winner drafted by Jacksonville. The Jaguars
moved up in the draft to pick Hunter, trading to Cleveland their fifth pick in the first around as well as second- and fourth-round picks in this year’s draft and a 2026 first-round pick.
In return, the Browns sent Jacksonville the No. 2 overall pick used on Hunter as well as 2025 fourth-round and sixth-round picks.
Hunter is the fourth straight Heisman winner selected among the top 2 picks and the eighth straight winner drafted in the top 10. He is also the 16th Heisman winner taken in the first round among the past 17 winners. The lone outlier is Derrick Henry, who was a second-round pick in 2016 and the 45th pick overall.
The previous seven winners to also be taken among the top 10 NFL draft picks are Jayden Daniels to Washington (2024, 2nd), Caleb Williams to Chicago (2024, 1st), Bryce Young to Carolina (2023, 1st), Joe Burrow to Cincinnati (2020, 1st), Kyler Murray to Arizona (2019, 1st) and Baker Mayfield to Cleveland (2018, 1st).
Overall, Hunter is the 44th Heisman winners selected in the top 5 and the 62nd recipient taken in the first round.
Two of Hunter’s fellow 2024 Heisman Trophy finalists were among the top six picks as well. Cam Ward, the Heisman’s 2024 fourth-place finisher, went first overall to Tennessee. Second-place finisher Ashton Jeanty was drafted sixth overall by Las Vegas.
Hunter is the second Colorado Buffalo Heisman winner drafted in the first round. Rashaan Salaam was drafted 21st overall by Chicago in the 1995 draft.
He is also the sixth Heisman-winning wide receiver or defensive back selected in the draft’s first round. The other Heisman-winning wide receivers drafted in the first round are Johnny Rodgers (San Diego, 1973), Tim Brown (Los Angeles Raiders, 1988), Desmond Howard (Washington, 1992) and DeVonta Smith (Philadelphia, 2021). Charles Woodson, who played cornerback and wide receiver, was drafted in the first round by the Oakland Raiders in 1998.
